Beardsley Zoo

The Beardsley Zoo is a must for things to do in Fairfield County. Beardsley Zoo has a proud history of over 99 years as Connecticut’s only Zoo. They are committed to protecting endangered animals and are constantly developing ways to protect species and preserve their wild habitats. You and the family can spend the whole day and see more than 300 animals representing primarily North and South American species.

At the Beardsley Zoo, you learn about many endangered and threatened species. You can visit the Siberian tiger, Andean condor, Red wolf, Giant Anteater, and Golden lion tamarin. If you are hungry, you can also eat at the Peacock Café, enjoy lunch in the Picnic Grove, and ride on the colorful carousel. The Zoo is open from 9 am to 4 pm daily. Tickets for adults are $19, kids are $15, and kids under 3 are free, but be sure to buy your tickets online in advance as you must make a reservation to attend.

Jennings Beach

One of the best things to do in Fairfield County is to spend the day at Jennings Beach. The largest of Fairfield County’s Beaches, this 27-acre site offers visitors a large sandy beach with scenic views of the Long Island Sound. It is handicap accessible with a concession stand, bathroom facilities, volleyball poles, and sailboat racks. Jennings Beach is home to the Sand Castle Playground and skate park, which is an excellent way for the kids to go and play. In addition, they have events throughout the year, including dance parties, movie nights, bonfires, and impressive fireworks. The beach is open from 10 am to 8 pm all season long, but be sure to get your beach sticker ($50) for the summer. In the off-season, you can also bring your dogs and horses for beach fun!

Maritime Aquarium

At this thing to do in Fairfield County, the Maritime Aquarium has 75 live exhibits featuring nearly 7,000 animals of 363 species. Your exploration begins along a freshwater river and the shallow waters of the salt marsh. Then you move into deeper and deeper habitats all the way out to the open ocean, from harbor seals, butterflies, meerkats, jellyfish, sharks, and so much more. There are interactive experiences and a pool where you can touch stingrays and sharks!

Maritime Aquarium also offers the chance to catch a ride on a boat cruise to spot seals and birds. The Maritime Aquarium is open from 10 am to 6 pm. Tickets for adults are $29.95, children are $20.95, and children under age three are free. In addition, they have a cafe to grab lunch and a great place to have a birthday party.
